In the Ojibwe language Anishinaabemowin, Pimachiowin Aki means the Land that Gives Life. It is a gift from the Creator to share with the world – a healthy boreal forest and all life that emerges from and flows across it, including the Creator’s gifts of sun, water, wind, rain, fire, rock, soil, plants, and animals.
Aki is also the source of life – the features, beings, forces, relationships, and processes that make up Pimachiowin Aki.
Elders chose this name as a reminder to us all that Anishinaabeg (Ojibwe people) are inseparable from
Anishinaabe Elderaki , the land, which is at thec entre of our existence.
