Why Sustainable Economies Matter
All of society benefits when people have meaningful jobs that support their wellbeing and respect the natural environment in which they live. Sustainable economies eradicate poverty, provide personal security, create cohesive communities and build brighter futures for youth.
How We Develop Sustainable Economies
We provide financial support and expertise to help Anishinaabeg explore economic opportunities within Pimachiowin Aki. Each First Nation community maintains autonomy over the planning and development of their local economy.
Eco-cultural tourism
Eco-cultural tourism is a potential economic opportunity for Pimachiowin Aki’s First Nation communities, and a way to celebrate and share the Land that Gives Life with the world.
We help communities develop eco-cultural tourism services, including accommodations, fishing tours, and authentic cultural experiences led by Anishinaabeg who hold land-based knowledge.
Non-Timber Forest Products
We work with Pimachiowin Aki’s First Nation communities to identify opportunities to develop and market products like wild rice, tea, berries, and mushrooms.
